Financial Times - Weekend

Illustration for the fiction review of David Nicholls’ latest novel ‘Sweet Sorrow’. Charlie, a 16 year old boy who is fairly sure he’s failed all his GCSE’s and lost his group of ‘inbetweener-ish’ friends because of his odd behaviour, accidently finds himself in the middle of rehersals for Romeo and Juliet. It is here that he falls madly in love with Fran and spends the summer reinventing himself as his horizons are expanded by her and the rest of the cast.
