Selected as the 2023 cover artist for The Lancet Rheumatology Journal, the paper that inspired the June cover looked at the burden of lower back pain as part of a large worldwide study called the ‘Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries and Risk Factors Study’. The study showed that around 619 million people suffered lower back pain in 2020. The number is projected to increase to 843 million by the year 2050.
